98 % percent bloggers and webmasters use 301 redirect to save their exposure,Authority, link juice  and loyal visitors. Most of us out there don`t know the real importance of 301 redirect and have hundreds of 404 error pages in our webmaster dashboard so it is our duty to find any error pages listed in webmaster dashboard and immediately list them for removal or create a 301 redirect. Many bloggers out there have some misunderstanding about 301 so i am here today to lead you to the right way.I hope you will like the technique and information given to you by my side and you will surely use it in your blogging carrier.

301 In The Eyes Of Google

I have read lots of question on Google webmaster forum and on many other blogs about the 301 that does 301 redirect pass full page rank to the new url or less page rank or they just act like a normal link. Most of people think that 301 redirect pass less page rank than normal links and that is the biggest misunderstanding. In a recent video Google Matt Cutts says that.

The amount of PageRank that dissipates through a 301 is currently identical to the amount of PageRank that dissipates through a link.

How A 301 Redirect Can Hurt You ?

So currently there is no differ between a 301 redirected link or a normal link in terms of page rank dilution. They can hurt you if you have redirects like a chain from on url to another, another, another that is not a good thing for you bit one or two will not hurt you.

How To Make A 301 Redirect In Wordpress ?

As like other blogging platforms Wordpress users also got to redirect their webpages so there is no official method given by Wordpress to redirect webpage you have to add a plugin to your Wp dashboard.Redirection is one of them this is used by one of my friends and he says it works fine. Redirection is a WordPress plugin to manage 301 redirections and keep track of 404 errors without requiring knowledge of Apache .htaccess files.
  • 404 error monitoring - captures a log of 404 errors and allows you to easily map these to 301 redirects
  • Custom 'pass-through' redirections allowing you to pass a URL through to another page, file, or website.
  • Full logs for all redirected URLs
  • All URLs can be redirected, not just ones that don't exist
  • Redirection methods - redirect based upon login status, redirect to random pages, redirect based upon the referrer!

  1. 301 permanent redirects can benefit your site or blog in a search engine optimization way and in a visitor way when used and used properly.

They keep the information about your site up to date with the search engines and avoid you loosing incoming links and annoyed visitors.

  4. Hi Tayyab,
Thanks for your post. I had a blogger blog. Now I've started a different wordpress blog on a similar topic. I want to redirect some individual post from the blogger blog to the wordpress blog. Any idea how I do this?
The plugins that I've found only deal with migrating the blog, but I don't want to do that.
    Thanks in advance!

  7. Hi I changed the name of my blog ( eg. xxx.blogspot.com to xyz.blogspot.com), but it is still the same blog. However, the posts with my old blog name are still the ones coming up in Google, and when I click them, they say blog not found. Will this be corrected automatically after a while or will I need to do a redirect? Thanks!
